Earth Symphony - A Musical Journey to the Origins of Our Planet

With the Earth Symphony Premium Collection, Koshi has created a wonderful tribute to our planet and the elemental natural environments. The four wind chimes, which are crafted in the French Pyrenees, each have their own unique mood, inspired by different habitats on our planet: Mountain, Forest, River, and Ocean. The melodies of the Koshi wind chimes invite you to leave everyday life behind for a moment, refocus, and reconnect with what is most fundamental—back to nature, back to the essentials. What makes them special: The four melodies can be played individually, yet they are so finely tuned to one another that they harmonize perfectly and, when played together, create a stunning symphony.

4 Moods - 4 Unique Melodies

Unlike the classic Koshis, the Earth Symphony chimes are tuned to concert A (440 Hz) as the reference pitch. Each of these musical instruments features a wooden resonator and 12 steel chimes soldered with silver solder, which are struck by a newly redesigned mallet made of brass and coconut shell.

Four of the 12 bars are tuned to the same frequency as another bar. They automatically resonate when their partner is struck, thereby enhancing the resonance and sustain.
This creates a rich, multi-layered sound with an enchanting melody that changes depending on how it is struck or its position. Each sound game has a unique character and produces a melody associated with one of the four habitats, inspired by their specific natural sounds.

Sound Character:

Ocean: vast, deep, enveloping
Ocean is tuned to a pentatonic scale in B major and is characterized by a vast, deep, and inviting sound. Its pentatonic melody is inspired by the ocean and can evoke a sense of boundless vastness and movement. Ideal for sound baths, bedtime rituals, and expansive soundscapes when played alongside singing bowls or gongs.

4 Types of Wood
While the soundbox of original Koshis is made of bamboo, four different types of wood were used for the Earth Symphony collection: walnut, oak, cherry, and maple. Each type of wood gives the instrument its own unique sound character.

Uses

Whether used as a wind chime or a musical instrument played by hand, the Koshi chimes create a unique atmosphere both indoors and outdoors. The crystal-clear, soothing sound will enchant you, your family, and your guests. You can also intentionally use the chimes during meditation, sound healing, sound and guided imagery journeys, or yoga exercises.

Sound Generation By Hand Movement

Hold the Koshi chime by its cord and let it hang freely. With a gentle twisting motion of the wrist, the clapper inside sets the tuning bars in motion, causing them to vibrate. This produces a flowing sequence of notes ranging from high to low. The more intensely or broadly you move the chime, the fuller and more vibrant its sound becomes. Alternatively, you can gently swing the Koshi back and forth. This way, the tones sound a bit more focused and can be perceived more consciously as individual notes.

During Meditation

The gentle melodies are well-suited for introducing or consciously concluding a meditation session. The sound creates a clear acoustic transition and can help focus your attention and then return to everyday life.

Sound Therapy, Sound and Imaginary Journeys & Sound Yoga

Koshis are also versatile for use in your sound work, sound and guided imagery journeys, or sound yoga. It can complement singing bowls, gongs, and other instruments rich in overtones, and can be used to expand sound spaces, create transitions, or introduce phases of conscious silence. Thanks to its light weight, the Koshi can be easily moved around the room and used in a targeted manner.

For Babies and Toddlers

The gentle, enchanting sounds of a wind chime can have a calming effect on babies and toddlers and create a relaxed atmosphere—for example, when falling asleep or cuddling. The wind chime should be held by an adult or hung out of the child’s reach.
Please note: Babies and toddlers should not pick it up themselves, pull on it, or play with it unsupervised. Also, make sure to keep it at a safe distance from the child’s head and do not play it too loudly or directly next to their ear.

Sound Generation via Airflow

You can also make a Koshi wind chime ring without any effort on your part—for example, through a draft. Even gentle air movements set the clapper inside in motion—the stronger the airflow, the more frequently and intensely the wind chime rings. A suitable placement would be, for example, by a window, in a drafty spot, or — at a safe distance — near a fan.

As an outdoor wind chime

You can use your Koshi as an outdoor wind chime, for example in your garden, on your patio, or on your balcony. Even a light breeze is enough to coax beautiful melodies from the instrument. However, you should not expose the wind chime to direct moisture or wetness and should choose a weather-resistant, covered location.
