Around the globe, Christmas marks the culmination of Christian life with festivities that span several days. Christmas traditions are as varied as the living and weather conditions of the celebrating Christians.

The diversity of cultures brings to light very different Christmas carols. The Christmas carol in Europe has a festive and dignified character.

African Christmas carols often sound like an invitation to dance; North American Christmas carols, which culturally originated much later than most European ones, often have hit character.

In many Latin American Christmas songs, the emphasis is on festive togetherness; in the gospel songs of African American cultures, the fun of singing and dancing is in many places more obvious than the Christmas message.
